ISRO has planned to conduct three online certificate courses in Machine Learning, Web GIS Technology, and Earth Observation for Carbon Cycle Studies. These courses will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) under Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The objective of ISRO Free Short Term Online Course with Certificate is to developing trained professionals in the field of Remote Sensing, Geo-informatics and GNSS Technology and others.

These short time courses will be conducted for short time which ranges from 4 to 12 days each. This is a great opportunity for students and professionals. The ISRO Free online course called “Machine learning to Deep Learning: A journey for remote sensing data classification”. The short course can be completed in five days, and participants will also receive a certificate. The course will be conducted through the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) as part of its outreach program. The program coordinator is Dr. Poonam S Tiwari who is from the IIRS DLP team.

This course will be conducted from 5 to 9 July in the evening from 4 to 5:30 PM. Participants can attend the course live via any web browser through the eclass portal of IIRS, Dehradun. The Topics cover on this course is fallowing:-

• Remote sensing and its sensors of various resolutions.
• Radiometry and geometric corrections and basic understanding of the image.
• Basic classifier to machine learning: A Journey.
• Methods in machine learning: Supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement.

• Introduction of Database Management System including SQL Queries and Data visualization including PostgreSQL and POSTGIS, Spatial SQL and Geo-visualization QGIS and Web.
• OGC We Services and Data publishing using Geoserver.
• Hand-on Experiment on GeoserverSLD, WMS, WFS, WCS and other Geo-web services.
• Web Mapping APIs: OpenLayers and Leaflet.
• Development of Web GIS applications using Mashup architecture.
• Web GIS applications for Governance.

Details of ISRO Free Online Course on Earth Observation for Carbon Cycle Studies

The course aims at giving participants an understanding of using Earth Observation (EO) satellites for accurate quantification of carbon fluxes of forest and agroecosystems at local, regional and global scales. The following topics will be covered from 21 June to 25 June 2023:

• Role of EO in carbon cycle assessment: Status, challenges and issues.
• Measuring ecosystem carbon exchange: Observational network, Instrumentation and advanced sensors.
• Up-scaling and modeling of carbon fluxes: Remote sensing and process-based modeling.
• Earth observation and its role in vegetation carbon pool assessment.
• Earth observation and its role in soil organic carbon (SOC) assessment.
